Mission & Purpose

The purpose of the Progressive "Safe Haven" Recreation Center is to provide a facility for the youth and adults in our community that is conducive to a fun, safe environment. It will be a place where many activities such as basketball, volleyball, roller skating, a walking track, gym space for tournaments and so much more for youth and adults to experience. It is our desire to partner with individuals and organizations that can assist us with this endeavor. We plan to renovate and have this Fitness Center up and running by the Spring of 2020. We are in the process of negotiating with contractors with regards to the expenses associated with building a full service, state of the art recreation facility. Thank you for any consideration.       * Remove south hallway with backdoor exit to widen gym. The back door in south hallway will exit from within gym not out in a hallway anymore.
      * Upstairs conference room/ finance room will be removed as well and placed upstairs over theatre 3.
      * The offices will be over theatre 6, with staircase and elevator.

Executive Summary

Apostle Alford is a native of Maywood, Illinois where he attended Proviso East High School. During his continued educational process, he obtained an Associate of Science Degree in Drafting. Apostle Alford's first experience in the ministry was as a musician. He soon became known as a gifted singer and songwriter, recording several albums throughout the years. God continues to use him in the ministry of music, prophetically flowing in the anointing of a psalmist. In 1983, Apostle Alford accepted the call as pastor, the church has experienced tremendous growth with the mission to be "Repairers of the Breach". "And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in." Isaiah 58:12 Apostle Alford has a genuine love for God's people and he yearns to see them blessed. His compassion towards pastors in need of direction, healing and refreshing has lead to the formation of the Kingdom Empowerment International Fellowship (K.E.I.F). Kingdom Empowerment International Fellowship is designed to minister to pastors in their area of need. He lovingly extends open arms to all that have been wounded, scarred and hurting, providing an atmosphere of rest and recovery. Apostle Alford demonstrates his commitment to "win the lost at any cost" as he utilizes various means to spread the gospel. He conducts deliverance services and crusades throughout the city of Chicago and other parts of the country. His evangelistic outreach includes jail ministry, door-to-door ministry, and hospital ministry. He believes strongly in the principles of fasting and praying until lives are changed. Apostle Donald L. Alford is God's chosen and appointed voice for this time. Apostle Alford is happilymarried to Gloria Windom Alford and the father of their four children: Donald II, Stephon, Terrell and Brianna.


Associate Pastor Gloria Alford
Gloria Alford is a native of Chicago, IL where she attended John Marshall Harlan High School, Chicago State University and Grace International College obtaining a B.A. in Christian Education and Administration. Gloria's passion to teach was sparked through the experience at Northwest Institute for Contemporary Learning. Gloria went on to further develop a computer curriculum for H. McNelty and James Memorial Christian Academy. She continues to share information regarding the latest in technology and new ideas to enhance the computer labs of various organizations. She served for 20 years as a Computer Instructor and Facilitator. Gloria is the daughter of Mrs. Georgia Windom and the late Pastor Alfred Windom, Sr. Gloria serves as Vice President and Executive Board Member, Community Service Director, etc. of Progressive Life Giving Word Cathedral, Hillside, IL where her husband, Apostle Donald L. Alford is the Senior Pastor. They have been married for 34 years. They have four wonderful children and four grand children. Donald & Rasheeda, Stephon, Terrell and Brianna. She also serves as a Board Member of Aspire. Aspire is an organization that serves persons with disabilities. Gloria's interests include but not limited to: pursuing her quest to become a bible scholar, studying God's Word, teaching and preparing for workshops, computer literacy, gardening, decorating, bowling, skating, cooking and developing new businesses.

Our Goal

To provide for the neighboring communities on a daily / weekly basis a safe haven for youth as well as to provide education, recreation, cultural, health and lifelong learning and training opportunities for adults and youth.

2014 - 2017 Intermediate Range – 3 Year Plan:

To Renovate and construct offices for management and staff for the community center; in addition to the following:
  • Repairs to the existing structure
  • New roof
  • Paving parking lot and construction / develop outdoor lawn care
  • Wall repairs and painting on mezzanine area
  • Acoustic paint for Sanctuary 1
  • Drywall and paint walls for the Multi-Purpose Facility
  • New Acoustic Drapes for Sanctuary 1
  • New carpet for Sanctuary 1
  • Floor covering in multi-purpose facility and foyer
  • Sprinkling System in the newly renovated Multipurpose room
  • 8-10 new steel doors

  • 2018 - 2028 Long Range – 7-10 Year Plan: To Build properties for individuals with low income status. To have a Senior Citizens Complex, A Child Care, To establish a Christian Academy K-8 & 9-12. To have our present facility, renovated for Training Ministries and Kingdom Outreach Ministries & Empowerment Ministries.

Life-Giving Community Center

Will offer tutoring, mentoring, after school care, literacy program for adults, and exercise programs in the adjacent fitness center. Continuing education training in the form of typing, computer skills, healthy cooking classes as well as gender empowerment classes. Youth Programs: art classes, dance, athletic activities, summer jobs, and leadership program.

Adult Education and Life Skills: The LGCC programs are designed to help families build strong parenting skills, and expand their vocational abilities, and provide positive community and cultural and spiritual activities. Basic life skills on balancing a checkbook, how to budget, and how to plan for purchasing cost – effective and nutritious groceries.

Progressive Life Giving Word Cathedral will publicize and initiative in there Sunday bulletins, make announcements, and inform directly about services and programs. Life Giving Community Center will activate a network throughout the community as well inform the community services and programs available.

LGCC will target the Western Suburbs and surrounding Chicago land area; which is comprised of multiethnic cultures as well as family based and children friendly.

Promotion and Advertising
Life-Giving Community Center, plans to use the internet as a major marketing strategy alone with emails and strong emphasis in social media blasts we will also have radio spots in addition to advertising in the local neighborhood papers.

Location
Life-Giving Community Center is located in the Hillside Area; in a contemporary environment with access to a high traffic location also easily accessible to (290), and conveniently located near neighboring expressways. Hours of operation Monday thru Friday 7:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.
